A Podcast Attempt

A conversation with one of the most interesting travelers we know
8

I’ve talked about doing a podcast since we started this Substack almost 4 years ago. I always thought that hearing about how people travel, instead of reading or seeing it, would be a good idea, but could also risk being incredibly boring.

After a call in December with our friend Tyler Dillon—an incredibly fun, interesting, well-traveled polymath who writes the excellent Substack The Timbuktu Review, and who happens also to be a travel planner at Truffle Pig (we wrote about him here)—we decided to give it a go. At the worst, we’d turn it into a written interview, and if it was good, we’d put it up.

So Alex, Tyler and I regrouped on a Zoom earlier this week and hey, we think it’s good enough. But you tell us! In it, we cover the idea of the “travel dreamscape”—a term we think Tyler coined, and which we ran with in last week’s Substack—how to lean out of your comfort zone when planning a trip, and the case for plotting your travels far ahead (as you would a financial investment), some inspired ideas for family adventures, plus a few places he’s excited about in his regions of expertise: Ireland, Vietnam, Bhutan and beyond.

Hopefully you like it, and that will mean we’ll do more.

ICYMI! We published a big Vienna Black Book last weekend on our site! Plus we covered what you need to know about the new UK visa rules.
