The real scoop on the island that is supposed to be the next Tulum, where to stay in Palermo and our recs for Bali, plus a transportive Japanese cookbook we can’t wait to try
This made me sad. Visited Holbox in December 2019. It was like fire Island meets Tulum of 10 years ago. My kids rode bikes with abandon. Every night they played soccer in the main square and experienced true freedom which for kids these days is unusual. At the time it was not overcrowded, and there weren’t backpackers ans loud music. But it seemed like a very fragile place. Like it could easily be overwhelmed. And I guess that’s what’s happened.
Hi! Going to Lake Como(trying to decide if we omit as I know it can be packed with mostly tourists), Cinque Terre, Florence, possibly Bologna, and finishing in Rome
Bali's traffic is crazy, particularly around the Seminyak and Canggu area – but that said, it's an exceptional island to visit. Beaches? Thailand's definitely better, but Bali's really hard to beat when it comes to culture. And wellness. I've been based there for the better part of the past 10 years, and have a Bali section running on my Substack (if you're looking for suggestions on how to escape the crowds).
Ah ha! Love the Magic Eraser tip!! How are you finding the Away carry on? Would you recommend?
Visited Holbox. Would also not go back.
