I have a tote problem! Current favorite is a navy waxed canvas zip tote from Banana Republic from last summer, always on the search for the next best. This list is enticing...
This is me. I love the idea of leather but it usually adds so much weight to be a reasonable travel schlepper. Have you looked at Bags in Progress? Great looking and practical.
I have never felt more seen. I too have WAY too many "personal item" totes to choose from. As I've gotten older though I find totes harder on my back/shoulders so have transitioned more to backpacks. Trying to find one that is roomy enough AND with good style is an ongoing challenge. I realize I'm in the minority here with #teambackpack but would love to see/hear of any stylish but practical ones people find!
I can’t imagine a white/off white tote making it through one trip without getting dirty. I generally prefer a zip top as well but I’m currently using the Liberty Iphis tote and love it!
I absolutely have this problem. Most recently, I convinced myself the Metier Incognito was the answer to all of my problems (so many pockets! Such organization!) and it’s a wonderful bag but it turns out I’m truthfully not organized enough to make sensible use of all of those pockets.
So NOT alone. Dangerous post as now thinking which of these I NEED (answer = zero, want is a different number). I used to use a large black on black Lonchamp bag (easy to wipe all the spills with kids!) which holds a lot; now I have the in- flight Anya Hindmarch bag, also wipeable nylon which is awesome, which I LOVE (pricey but found on serious discount at LuisAviaRoma). Am in love with your green Rue de Vernell but worry it would get beat up too fast.
Oh my, I have the very same disease! LV duffle in black and grey eclipse (bought it on an online resale site but it was in perfect shape). which fits so nicely under the seat, but my latest is the L Rue Traversse Cruise in a green Khaki. I agree, the top is usually stuffed with a jacket or sweater and various organized pouches.
I find that I don't enjoy pricey bags. I enjoy durability that I can wipe clean. And I need one that can hold up to my wear and tear. I have the Paravel and I loved it but as you said it does not work for under the seat, plus the off white is no match for an airplane. (for me anyway). My new favorite totes are by Chilewich and Rareform.
This post hit me right in the tote addiction. My closet has basically become a museum of bags I once swore were “The One”—only to be seduced by the promise of a trolley strap, a better canvas color, or that elusive mix of roomy-yet-structured. I still think about a navy waxed canvas tote I let go of too soon (Haile, I feel you).
Totally smitten with the Il Bisonte collab—chef’s kiss on adding the trolley strap. And now you’ve got me obsessively Googling that Porter bag. Love that it turned into a real-life romance story.
I'm a bit late to the chat here but having just returned from a road trip on which I had no less than four bags, I confess, my love affair with bags big and small runs deep, and yet I never seem to have the right one. My Toteme suede tote is too heavy for a day of walking, and worse, the strap slips off my shoulder. I've had my eye on a quilted COS crossbody (looks like a puffy bag of popcorn and comes in various colours). Also Marimekko has jumbo-sized crossbody bags in recycled polyester that I'm going to test. Ever in search of the perfect companion!
The hurdle is finding a tote that has a zipper. I am not risking things falling out or someone fishing something out of my bag without me noticing.
I think because I have my sweater and scarf on top it usually keeps stuff from falling out. But you're totally right. the hunt continues!

Same same. Now I put metier incognito INSIDE its dust bag INSide the Rue bag. It’s nuts but it works. At destination I use the metier
YES! love this idea.

Oh wait, maybe you love it? Or maybe you love that it’s wipeable.
How do you like the AH bag? I obsessed with personal item bags. Lol
I love it!!!
What envelope is that?
it's ghurka
Thank you! So not alone. I’m currently using a Lotuff 929 but my closet is full of various totes. There is always room for one more 🫣

I didn’t realize it WAS a problem, but now that you mention it…😬…. my name is J and I have a problem… But I do love them all the same! 😹💯💖
🙏🤣
Totally me! I love totes and all manners of bags. Such an issue but agree: zip top is key for security. The Rue de Verneuil is calling my name.
