While I’ve never actually done a retreat of any kind—food, craft, wellness, or otherwise—I get so much fomo when I see other people participating in them. I think I’m not a joiner…but then I consider how many great people I’ve met at a hotel bar, or at the next table at a cafe, and how that random way of being thrown together can make for the most fun conversations and connections, very different from the rhythms and routines of long friendships.
The closest I’ve gotten to being on a retreat was here in the French Médoc (where I’m writing this from), where the Manger food and photography workshops were born, across the street, at Mimi and Oddur Thorisson’s home. On occasion I met some of the guests, many of whom I'm still in contact with. There is something about meeting people on foreign soil that just bonds you in a different way. And I love that these kinds of creative retreats offer a whole new deeper way to travel and connect. So when
