Mediterranean Summer Part 3: A Puglia trip to celebrate getting Italian passports, last-minute home rentals from Spain to Sicily, water sandals that are actually chic, and BTS at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc
I quite agree. There are so many people who I suspect haven’t experienced what a pleasure it is to be pulled together and know you look nice. Simple, tailored, neat -- it doesn’t have to be expensive. It just has to look like you care.
And as I have said for decades now, it takes no more effort to pull on a pair of slacks than sweatpants. And in the summer, a dress is the easiest of all, and the most comfortable.
We encountered the rudest and most shockingly aggressive behaviour from the staff at the Eden Roc last Sunday. Our benchmark for hotel staff are those at the incomparable Palace Hotel in Gstaad. The Eden Roc staff that we encountered would not last 5 minutes working for Mr Scherz.
I know, and compare to yesterday when I was walking past the new Costes brothers hotel in London, all sweaty in my tennis gear, and I said to the doorman after 5 years of building ‘oh you’re finally open’ I was invited in and given a personal tour by the manager. We are off to Menorca next week in slight trepidation, as I am always wary of destinations that suddenly become ‘the place’, a bit like Puglia, which every year we discuss and reject. I hope my doubts are unfounded. As for the Hotel du Cap, I have been trying to find excuses for them, like, given the public it attracts these days you could almost forgive the staff for being as rude as them, but, no…..

Staying at Cap-Eden-Roc is on my wish list. In the meantime, I enjoy wearing Dior Eden Roc perfume and using my imagination.
