First, great post! Channeling South of France all summer long even if it’s just South of My Yard.
Second, if one already subscribes to YoloJournal.com do we need a second subscription to access the paywalled Substack content? I’m a little unclear. Thx!
The link gives me an error when I try to upgrade in the Substack app. I’ve tried multiple times with my card on file and another card. This is the error code: No such customer: 'cus_Mptng8dwJQ4vAb'
I’m just honestly completely lost in what I’ve subscribed for and where to access it?! I think you have amazing content but the changes are really tricky for me to follow and account for.
I think that’s right - when I sign into the website it tells me what I’ve subscribed to. That doesn’t include any Substack content. So I think it means 80.00 for website subscription and an additional 50.00 for the new Substack subscription. (All in AUD for me with a terrible exchange rate because China trade war sinks the Aussie dollar!) Soooooo comes to about 130 USD and 200AUD per year if you subscribe to everything but you have the choice to do one or the other.
Thank you form your incredible content which is immaculate. This is like the Rolex watch of travel reporting and I totally respect that. It’s just that the world has entered uncertain times and the Australian dollar suffers. Need to keep an eye on my USD expenditures!
I’m on a flight back from France right now. My husband and I went to visit our 30 year old son who lives in Sète with his French wife. We took them traveling in the south of France. I used the Yolo Journal recs for two of our hotels and they were spot on. I’m not going to list them here because I think your YOLO journal is worth every penny and I don’t want to give away your content. Thank you for doing what you do. I really appreciate it.
France Travel Planner: The South of France is the name of the article I used on the Yolo Journal to book hotels in Aix-en- Provence and in St. Tropez. My usual Hotel in St. Tropez was 2.5 times the price I normal pay so I decided to try one of the Yolo recs and I was VERY pleased. Yolanda also wrote an article called La Ponche, which I just saw and it has photos of our new hotel. :) The hotel we booked in Aix, at Yolo's recommendation was spectacular.
This is amazing! We are going to the South of France in Sept (and lucky us, one stay is at Hotel du Cap Eden Roc!) so your tips are so perfect! Thank you!!
That’s where I grew up! The best lifestyle…Don’t forget Cannes….😉 I love the Tropeziennes…I got a pair 2 summers ago in metallic they look really nice with everything…🩶
South of France is much more than just the Riviera. It starts in Gers, then Toulouse and its surroundings, Carcassonne, Narbonne. It you take left turn in Narbonne you go towards Sete, Montpellier, Nimes, Aix en Provence, Marseille, not to forget the back country. Turn right and you head towards Perpignan and the beaches and mountains of Pyrenees-Orientales. Drive a little further and you are in Barcelona. A good portion of this south of France is the Occitanie region. With my recently launched mediterraneanworkandplay.com we invite our fellow Americans to come 'Spend more time doing less' in Occitanie.
I’ve been a subscriber and supporter of your work since the early Substack days, and I’ve really enjoyed the content and insights you share. When you made the move to your standalone website, I understood the reasoning and followed along with the transition, trusting that it was the new home for everything going forward.
Now that you’ve reopened the Substack with a new paywall, it’s a bit confusing and, honestly, disappointing as a paying subscriber on the website. It feels like we’re now being asked to subscribe to two platforms to get the full experience, which wasn’t the understanding at the time of sign-up.
I totally see the value of fostering more interaction with readers, but I wonder — is there a reason everything can’t be housed in one place? Whether that’s creating a forum or community space on the website, or ensuring that existing subscribers get access to both platforms, it would go a long way in making your long-time supporters feel included and valued.
Thanks for all the great content so far — I hope you’ll consider some way to unify things moving forward.
Well loved the article on the South of France and subscribe but now totally confused by what substack is, I've traveled from France to a black hole of content, sad me.
Love this! I’m Harrison, an ex fine dining industry line cook. My stack "The Secret Ingredient" adapts hit restaurant recipes (mostly NYC and L.A.) for easy home cooking. Dm me if interested in a recommendation swap — we’re growing fast!
I’m in Aus too & the exchange rate is making it harder to justify. I’ve just cancelled my Conde Nast subscription & this may be next for the chopping block!

Sorry about that Dawn! We hadn't toggled on the option to upgrade within the app, but that's fixed now!
Can you please clarify if subscribers to the site will have to pay a separate subscription for Substack?
Hi Nyia! If you look at the About page, it outlines everything there! https://yolojournal.substack.com/about
I did. Thanks. Just clarifying

Sorry it’s confusing. Our about page should help clarify. Let me know if you have more qs https://yolojournal.substack.com/about
I wondered the same thing. Looks like we have to subscribe to both which seems unfair as an already paid up subscriber to the website.
Totally agree—especially considering I originally subscribed to the Substack, which was later shut down and everything got moved to the website.

Agree.

Actually, I did the same.

I just checked and seems that it is working.

I agree 100% percent. At the very least, you could offer your web site subscribers a discount code for the Substack subscription.
Can you add the paid posts to the yolojournal website?
