A preview of our Paris issue! Plus food writer Rebekah Peppler’s favorites for petit déjeuner & apéro hour, sandals that channel St. Tropez, and a French restaurant decoder
May I ask why digital subscribers to Yolo Journal can't have access to this Substack too? I love your content but don't want to have to pay for two separate subscriptions. It seems like they should be bundled.
Hi NicS! So, the short answer to why we have a paid tier for subscriptions on both platforms is that we see them as separate efforts.
Imagine our site, Yolojournal.com, as the library, and our Substack, Club Yolo, as the café just next to it. On our website, we post our latest travel intel (Black Books, Travel Planners, etc.), and here we share more personal posts – what’s on our minds and our radars – and connect directly with you (and you with each other). In addition, paid Club Yolo subscribers can ask questions and get answers from us (“You Asked For It”) and from your fellow subscribers. You can also initiate Chats in the Chat vertical when you have a pressing question, and we love to see so many of you taking advantage of that. While we are very happy for our free Substack subscribers, our paid posts (every other week) take our very small team additional time and effort, especially when we are researching answers to your questions or doing a longer researched personal post (like “How to take your dog to Europe”). You can read more about the differences between the two platforms and why we decided to create a paid tier of Club Yolo here https://yolojournal.substack.com/about
Unfortunately, though, we can’t bundle the payments into one, like we can for our digital + print Yolo Journal subscriptions – which we agree would be way more convenient - because Substack and WordPress use two separate payment platforms. But we would love to solve that and will definitely let you know if we do!
I am very confused- Yolanda do you have 2 communication vehicles? I pay $8 every month for your travel blog but what is this Substack blog? Same or different?
Yes, we have Yolojournal.com, our website, which is where we archive all our travel intel (and send out new stories via email newsletter on Saturdays). Here on Substack, Club Yolo is our community platform. In short, as mentioned above, think of our site, Yolojournal.com, as the library, and our Substack, Club Yolo, as the café just next to it. You can read more about the differences between our website and our Substack here: https://yolojournal.substack.com/about. And thank you so much for subscribing!
